[three_fourth last=”yes”]Ron Lau brings over 18 years of entrepreneurship, professional advisory services, and corporate experience across a broad set of industries.  Since 1998, he has been an active principal with Venture X Group, helping to launch over 100 entrepreneurial projects representing investments of over $150 million.  Successes include advising SecureWorks in multiple rounds of venture financing (sold to Dell in 2011 for $650 million), developing the business plan and financial advisory services resulting in funding of MFG.com (Jeff Bezos portfolio company), GuardedNet (acquired by IBM) and AirBand (nation’s largest B2B wireless broadband provider).  From 2007-2009, Lau was Vice President of Strategic Development and General Counsel of Recordant (a VXG client and investment), where he was a part of the team that successfully closed two financing rounds from top tier venture funds.  In that role, he reduced the solution cost by 75% through new hardware and software technology partnerships along with managing the legal affairs of the company.  From 1997-1998, Mr. Lau served multiple roles at BellSouth.  He was the Area Manager for one of BellSouth Entertainment’s largest markets, responsible for the general management of four terrestrial cable franchises as well as a wireless video distribution system. His responsibilities included managing internal teams in marketing, technology, and content programming in addition to being the primary contact for managing the operation’s external relationships.  In his role as a strategic planner for BellSouth, he was one of the primary strategists in the development and successful execution of the company’s strategy in an FCC wireless spectrum auction as well as managing other strategic planning initiatives for companies in the BellSouth Enterprises portfolio.  From 1994-1997, Mr. Lau was a member of Ernst & Young’s financial advisory services group, managing projects supporting over 30 M&A transactions. These transactions spanned the range of health care companies such as hospitals, HMOs and physician groups, as well as companies in other industries such as food production, textile, latex manufacturing and biomedicine.  He has a BS in Finance from the University of Connecticut and a JD/MBA from Emory University.
